In the Philadelphia and Allentown area this past weekend there was major snow squalls and storms moving through the area. Most of the precipitation that was left over (in the form of snow) was only 3 to 6 inches at the teamWeather location. Most of the storm’s precipitation has been washed out by rain that occurred earlier this week.

We did have periods of whiteouts especially while traveling through the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton areas with heavy winds and traffic delays. Most of the highways were going smoothly but at a reduced speed.

Looking back at the archived weather information the average wind for the week was not very high. With the readings being done every 5 seconds to Weather Underground we should have a good bulk of data that was submitted. Most of the wind occurred over a few hours and it did not severely impact the averages for the month or week. Some of the wind (over 1-2 hours) wasn’t recorded because of the heavy, wet snow received in the storm. We cleared the weather vane when the conditions permitted it and started to receive good data again. Most of the wet and heavy snow did blow off the weather station in the times of gusts up to 30-35 miles per hour.

Looking at the data overall it shows that during the Winter Storm the wind was mostly blowing at the East to West Direction and the temperatures dropped below 30 degrees overall. After the storm the temperatures the following week went up to about 50 degrees (while it rained) and most of the snow melted or washed out.

There were some roadways that were flooded in Perkasie and Hilltown Township including Hilltown Pike and Diamond Street due to poor/blocked ditches on the side of the road.
